Tongue Maintenance
After the swelling has dissipated about 3-4 weeks, your tongue piercing should be measured for a shorter, fitted shaft. This will make your piercing feel much more comfortable, and is recommended to reduce the likelihood of damage to your teeth and gums. We have also noted that a shorter shaft is less likely to cause later injury to your tongue. Fancy balls or head pieces for the jewelry can be obtained at this time. After the 3 week aftercare, you should be down to just general dental hygiene. If continued overuse of mouthwashs occurs, you can irritate the piercing and develop problems. We recommend piercing the tongue with a 12 gauge shaft to reduce tongue injury and jewelry migration. |
